HGV Axle Repair – Restoring Worn and Damaged Components

Project Overview

Blaker Engineering has been repairing damaged axles for HGV and commercial vehicles for over 90 years, helping operators keep vehicles on the road with practical, cost-effective repair solutions.

The Challenge

Wear, fatigue and impact damage are all part of working life for axles, particularly in demanding environments.  Over time, critical areas such as bearing seats, threads and stub axles can become worn or damaged, affecting performance and reliability.

In many cases, replacing the complete axle can be costly and lead to delays while new components are sourced.

The Repair Process

Where possible, the team restores the original component rather than replacing it.

Worn sections are machined back, built up through welding, and then re-machined to bring them back to robust and original tolerances. Each stage is carried out with precision to ensure the axle runs true once returned to service.

The Outcome

By restoring the original axle, the component can be retained and returned to service with confidence.

Repair is often a faster alternative to replacement, helping to avoid downtime associated with sourcing new parts or complete axle units.
