Project Overview
Blaker Engineering carried out the repair of an HGV drive axle at our West Sussex workshop, restoring a worn bearing surface and damaged threaded end to return the component to full working condition.
Background
Axle components on HGV lorries and trailers are subject to significant wear over time. When bearing surfaces deteriorate or threads become damaged, operators are often faced with the cost and lead time of sourcing a complete replacement axle assembly.
In many cases, a precision repair offers a more practical and cost-effective alternative, getting vehicles back on the road without unnecessary delay.
Work Undertaken
The drive axle was assessed on arrival and the extent of the wear and damage identified. The repair process involved machining the axle in the lathe to prepare the affected areas, followed by welding to rebuild the bearing surface and the threaded end.
The component was then re-machined to restore the correct dimensions and tolerances, ensuring an accurate fit on reassembly.
