Rebuilding a Badly Damaged Selector Grab at Blaker
This selector grab arrived at our workshop with a badly damaged area that was cracked, bent and twisted. The distortion was too extensive for the section to be straightened or the crack simply welded, as this would not have restored the grab’s correct shape or structural strength. A complete section therefore needed to be cut away and rebuilt.

Rebuilding a Badly Damaged Selector Grab
This selector grab arrived at our workshop with a badly damaged area that was cracked, bent and twisted. Fabricating a Replacement Panel
Our engineers removed the damaged section and fabricated a replacement panel using Hardox, a tough, abrasion-resistant steel suited to equipment working in demanding conditions.
The replacement panel was fitted and welded into position, together with new cutting edges, restoring the strength and integrity of the grab.
A Strong and Durable Repair
Selector grabs are clamshell attachments with straight-edged blades, designed to pick up, sort and move materials from flat surfaces. As they are routinely exposed to heavy loads, impact and abrasive materials, the repair needed to be strong, durable and capable of withstanding continued use.
Blaker Engineering provides specialist recycling equipment repair and refurbishment services for damaged and worn equipment, helping operators extend component life and minimise costly downtime.
