Eddy Current Rotor Repair Following Over-Greasing Failure

Eddy current separators operate in demanding recycling environments, where reliable performance is essential to maximising non-ferrous metal recovery.

A damaged eddy current rotor recently arrived at our workshop following a failure caused by over-greasing within the shaft assembly.

The problem

Excess grease led to heat build-up within the assembly, causing the rotor to seize and jam during operation.

The resulting failure damaged the outer wrapper, allowing the internal magnet assembly to become loose and dislodge. What began as a routine maintenance issue quickly developed into a significant equipment failure requiring specialist repair.

Inspection and remedial work

Our engineering team carried out a full strip down of the rotor assembly to assess the extent of the damage and identify any secondary issues.

The repair process included:

Restoring operationally critical equipment

Eddy current separators play a key role in recovering valuable non-ferrous metals from waste streams. When failures occur, downtime can have a direct impact on processing efficiency and material recovery.

By carrying out specialist repair and remedial work, operators can often restore equipment to service without the cost and disruption associated with complete replacement.

Blaker Engineering supports waste metal recycling operators with specialist repairs to operationally critical processing equipment, helping keep plants running efficiently.
