Drum Magnet Shaft Repair and Refurbishment
A drum magnet recently arrived at our West Sussex workshop for assessment and repair work. The repairs include replacing both ends of the drum magnet shaft, fabricating two new stainless steel end discs and regluing the internal stacks of magnets after water ingress caused the original adhesive to break down.

Drum Magnet Shaft Repair and Refurbishment at Blaker Engineering
A drum magnet recently arrived at our West Sussex workshop for assessment and repair work.
The repairs include replacing both ends of the drum magnet shaft, fabricating two new stainless steel end discs and regluing the internal stacks of magnets after water ingress caused the original adhesive to break down.
Replacing the Drum Magnet Shaft Ends
Both ends of the drum magnet shaft required replacement.
Our engineering team removed the damaged sections and fabricated new shaft ends, which were then fitted and machined to the required dimensions.
The before and after photographs show the condition of the original shaft ends and the replacement ends following machining.
Fabricating New Stainless Steel End Discs
Two new stainless steel end discs have also been fabricated in our workshop.
The drum magnet is used to separate aggressive and corrosive materials, which had taken their toll on the original components. Stainless steel was therefore selected for the new end discs to help them withstand the demanding conditions in which the drum operates.
Regluing the Internal Magnets
During the refurbishment, our team also discovered that water had found its way into the adhesive holding the internal stacks of magnets together.
The problem was deceptive. Although the magnets appeared solid, movement revealed that some of the stacks had become loose after the adhesive had broken down.
The affected magnets are being reglued and secured to ensure the internal assembly is robust and hardwearing. Once the repair work is complete, our team will balance the drum magnet before it is returned to the customer.
